Title: Another geek day, another two bits
Music du jour: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Star Wars:
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Random geek link of the day, kids: Network Access with GAWK. This is just NOT natural. I'm telling you.
Well, we finally got most of our tools back online at work. There are certain scripts and Web-based tools we use that are indispensable; without them, most of us glorified helpdesk weenies can't do our jobs at ALL. At least two of these bitches have been up and down like a White House intern for the past three days. This afternoon we finally got all four of them working AT THE SAME TIME. Gasp of amazement. It made my day a whole lot better. Not that it was bad, just frustrating. Users don't really understand or care that your tools are down -- they just want their stuff taken care of.
So we had the big all-hands meeting this afternoon -- its major merit was free food, which is why Billy and I showed up. Heh heh heh. We sat in the back eating sandwiches and drinking iced lattes, making smart remarks about the fact that one of the team leads was using Powerpoint on a Windows machine to do his presentation. And the man works at Sun? Oops. Oh well.
After all that fun stuff was done, Billy and I zoomed out the door to go to Boulder for our lunch hour. We had some business to conduct at the Pipefitter, home of the finest, erm, tobacco smoking accessories on the Hill. I picked up a bead necklace and bracelet. I'm such a sucker for bead jewelry. Billy's purchase was very nice and tasteful; it's a subtle teal color. I am in admiration of his good taste. Of course, he's supposed to have good taste, since he likes boys and all. All gay men are required by law to have excellent fashion sense and be able to accessorize your furniture with your living room carpet. It's in that gay agenda we get when they send us our membership cards. No, really.
Oh, and the big news for today is APPARENTLY Useless West is finally offering DSL service where we live. DSL rules so much. It's fast as hell, and I'll gladly pay a couple of more bucks a month to ditch my 33.6 modem and get my domains in my total control. If we get 768k, I'm moving nerdherd.net and nerdherd.org", and probably the rest of the domains we own, including this one. Did I mention I'm a control freak? I'm a control freak; it's one of the few traits I inherited in spades from my mother. Hi Mom. :)
Okay. Screw this noise... I'm going home. Time to watch MASH and kick it with some supper. Gotta be up early for my court date, ya know.
