Title: Back to the grind

Well, I'm back on the job full-time. Cynthia left this morning on the 10 AM flight to Kansas City, and that's all I have to say about that right now. I'm trying to alleviate depression, thank you.
The newest development at work is they're merging the RC Systems group (my group) and the Operating Systems group. Previously, Systems had been doing grunt sysadmin work: adding accounts, doing OS installs, that sort of thing. OS was responsible for doing actual troubleshooting. (Billy is in the OS group.) They're trying to streamline things a little bit more, and since Systems and OS do very similar work, we're merging. Basically what this means at my level is I now have queue time: certain hours of the day where I and a couple of other people are solely responsible for everything coming into the new, merged ticket queue. It's kind of a pain in the ass, but on the upside, it means I'll be learning a lot more about Unix troubleshooting than I know now, because I'll be forced to deal with a great variety of problems. That's always a plus. I was just thinking today that I really need to break out of my Air Force always-follow-the-TO-blindly mindset; it's not conducive to troubleshooting in the least. In maintenance in the Air Force, we have the almighty, all-knowing Technical Order system which we are supposed to follow to the letter for troubleshooting and performing maintenance. This is all fine and good, but you don't learn how to think your way through a problem, or at least I haven't. I've brought that whole blind-faith mindset over into my civilian job. It's an obstacle I have to learn how to overcome.
I have to jet out of this place so I can go pick up my pictures from the Moto Foto over by King Sooper's. Ian took a load of pictures of Cynthia this weekend -- she's putting together a compilation of her music and wanted a picture for the cover of the CD -- and I got prints of some of the better shots of me and her. We're terribly cute.
Oh... I also got a bunch of new pencils and a sketchbook this weekend. Maybe I'll put up a couple of my better efforts in the Visual Aids section.
That's it for now. Gotta run. I'm in a tearing hurry, as always.
