Title: Corky is my hero
(Note to those interested: today's entry contains drooling and ranting of an ... alternative nature, so to speak. If you're not able to deal with this, please go read the archives or browse the haikus instead.)
I've decided what I want to be when I grow up. Ready? *ahem*
I'm going to be a bad-ass biker chick. A genuine dyke on a bike.
Stop that laughing. I can hear you out there. It's not that damn funny. I think I could pull it off, you know. Seriously. I just need to get to the gym and get all buff. I've been a lazy child lately. Who here is surprised? *grin* But after I get all muscular, I need some shades, man. You know the sunglasses Neo wore in The Matrix? Those. Yeah. Of course, they'd have to be prescription, but hey.
Next I need tattoos. Lots of tattoos. (Chill, Mom... it hasn't happened yet.) And, of course, a Harley. With a leather jacket.
What inspired all this was seeing Bound for the first time. I want to tell you people that Gina Gershon in leather is a lovely, lovely thing. Especially when she's playing a lesbian who oozes confidence from every pore of her luscious, firm body. She's got the haircut, the truck, the voice... y'all, she's got the SWAGGER. You know what I'm talking about. The swagger that says to any guy in the vicinity, "I'm a bad-ass bitch who doesn't take any shit from anyone. I can out-run you, out-drink you, out-fuck you and I can beat you at arm-wrestling. What's more, I'll steal your woman right out from under your nose and you won't even know what's happened until she calls you from the Meow Mix telling you where to ship her clothes."
Gina Gershon plays "Corky" in Bound. Corky is an ex-con who just got out of jail and is working part-time as a plumber. She seduces and is seduced by her next door neighbor, Violet, who lives with a small-time mobster and generally serves as decoration for his bosses. Violet is one tough chick as well, mind you. The two of them decide to steal two million bucks out from under her boyfriend's nose. Not everything goes as planned, naturally. The point is that by the end of the movie, Corky and Violet have double-crossed everyone within sight, and not by merely using only physical force. They're smart, canny and quick on their feet, and Corky gets herself out of a tight spot more than once to put the smack down on the boyfriend. She just kicks ass... and I want to be just like her.
This is a woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. This is a woman who doesn't care what the kids in high school thought (she could probably kick their asses now anyway). THIS, my friends, is a woman who is everything I want to be, and am too wussy to try to be.
Yes, I want to be like Corky when I grow up. Even if I never get abs of steel or a tattoo, I want that swagger, and the confidence that goes with it.
Vroom, baby.
