Title: Playing corporate geek
Music du jour: The tech support song
on obsessive repeat
Wow, I can't believe October is almost over. It's flown by, man. Weird.
Well, I went on an interview today with SmartTalk.com. The interview itself went really well. I was pretty relaxed; since I'm not in any big hurry to leave Sun, I figure I can chill and not overly worry about impressing the hell out of recruiters. I didn't get an offer, because they're looking for an NT puke, which I most definitely am not. The lead techie said to me, "You have a fantastic skillset in Unix, but your NT experience is weak." No shit, dude; it's that way out of choice. But I'm not fussed; I enjoyed myself. The company looks kinda neat. And if they turn up with any new Unix positions (which they may, since they're putting together a data center), I might yet get a call. So I'd call it a good experience overall.
After the interview, I treated myself to lunch in Boulder. I carried my backpack instead of my briefcase so I'd look a little less like a damn yuppie. Yuppies get odd looks on the Hill, for some reason. I can tell I'm getting old, too. Know why? The phrase, "Get a job, you fucking freak," springs easily to mind the last few times I've been on the Hill and someone camping out on the sidewalk has asked me for a handout. Heh. I'm probably going to hell for that, but I guess I figure if I have to get my ass a job to eat, any able-bodied adult with an IQ above that of an eggplant should have to as well. Today wasn't bad, though. It was a nice crisp day and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. I had a delish deli sandwich from the deli just across from the Roma. I never can remember the name of that place. Planet Deli, or something like that. Anyway, it was good.
Interviews. I have an interview with a pimp tomorrow and another couple next week. We shall see what pops up.
