Title: The geek commune lives!
Music du jour: Random Mighty Mighty Bosstones MP3's

Well, Jim is moved in nicely. His desk is set up in the living room and his stereo is currently blasting Quake 3; but when it's not Quake, it's Paul Oakenfeld, Crystal Method or something similar. It's always nice when your roommates have good taste in music, which mine do. Even Bill gets on a Les Miserables kick now and then and puts the soundtrack on obsessive repeat.

Ian just got home from work and babbled something about a Christmas tree, and then wandered off muttering about finding power tools. I think I should be afraid, but I'm not sure. It is indeed time for a tree. Usually we have one up by this time, but Christmas snuck up on me this year, and I'm playing catch-up in a big, big way. Hell, I just got the first Christmas card of the season yesterday (from Thomas -- thanks, honey) and it made me realize it is indeed December, even if the weather here hasn't been any indication of the season until the last two weeks. And today we got a package of prezzies from Ian's mom, the fabulous and talented Mryka. Yay! I love being someone's kid; even if you're married and gone, you still get Stuff(tm). Cool. I'm trying very hard to resist ripping them all open, but it's not working very well. Thanks for the thermos mug and the padded book cover, Mryka...

So, the Geek Pad Extraordinaire continues to grow. Jim is renovating the garage when he gets work up here and making it into an annex that is going to house most of our geeky and/or extra shit. Some people do wood-working in their garage... we spin vinyl and host Web sites. The boys have already strung Cat5 cable down from the upstairs hub to the living room so Jim could put his box on the network, and I'm hearing explosions and yells from the Quake 3 Arena deathmatch going on right now. "Die motherfucker!!" Heh. Just another quiet night at the geek pad.

Chinese buffet beckons me. I must away to answer its call.

-- marcie.
