In Like A Lion
It's been downright spring-like out here the last couple of days. Jason is digging it, but I want my snow, dammit. Jason is a Colorado native, ya see, and he hates snow. He refers to it as "that white shit". Heh. I'm a native Southerner and I love snow and hate the heat. Jason wants to move to Arizona. I guess it makes sense. But still. Where's my SNOW?!?
So Ian is coming up with all sorts of... interesting ideas for the farmhouse. The latest among them is a trampoline. But not JUST a trampoline, mind you: an in-ground trampoline. "Just dig a big old hole and throw it in the ground. Better yet, have it a couple of feet sunk down in the ground, so that you have to bounce up over the edge to get out. That would rule." I can picture it... you're driving down the road and you see these people popping out of the ground at random intervals. *boing boing boing boing* "What the fuck?!?" Hee hee.
Back to the Grind
After a week of being essentially on vacation, I'm back at work with a vengeance. This week has been spent playing catch-up and hammering out the details of the software inventory program we're getting from our east coast colleagues. The author of the program has been out here all week to get us set up, which basically means he's been showing me the ropes. Supposedly he's been giving the lab manager and PFY Chick the run-down as well. I hope to God one of them knows what's going on, cause I think my brain has developed a leak. Everything he's been telling me has just gone right through my head; I'm not retaining ANY of it. Granted, it's a pretty immense project which is going to require quite a bit of setup and development, but I still feel like I should be getting it a little better than I am -- especially since I'm the one who's going to have to set it up and develop it. Eek. At least I'm not the only one who doesn't really get it: PFY Chick is as confused as I am. Not to take delight in others' misfortune, but I'm a bit relieved not to be the only clueless one. I guess we'll stumble through it together. Geek bonding, woo woo.
Car 54, Where Are You?
The Neon is sick. It's been losing power, idling rough, getting shitty gas mileage and generally exhibiting flu-like symptoms for a few days, and yesterday the "Service Engine" light came on as I was driving to class. Considering it just got a tune-up -- what, two weeks ago? -- it shouldn't be acting up. So we took it into the dealership (again) this morning. Turns out it's got a series of problems, beginning with the spark plug wires and getting even more fun from there. (A few hundred dollars worth of fun -- eek.) I figured it was the alternator, since the car is creeping up on 90,000 miles; every alternator on every car I've had has gone out around 90k. Turns out it's everything BUT the alternator. Go figure. Get well, Neon!
