Title: Priorities
Reading: Real World recaps on
Mighty Big TV
Hearing: The board of directors chattering in the conference room; I'm hiding.
Drinking: Coke
Eating: Hershey's Kisses. I really have to quit while I'm ahead.
One of these days, I hope to be the type of person who handles her woes with grace, aplomb, and a touch of humor, who gets quoted in Chicken Soup For the Soul and bequeathes the wisdom of her years with the lightest touch to the eager children seeking her knowledge.
For right now, though, I'm a stressed out geekazoid who is ready to throw a computer through the nearest wall into the parking lot.
To sum up: Past due mortgage payments. Idiotic buyers who want to bend me over and screw me dry on the price of my townhouse. Developers. Fucking construction on the damned Boulder Turnpike. Credit cards. Friends who are so deep into their religion that they can't deal with the thought of me getting a divorce. Friends who are so deep into their religion that they can't deal with gay people at all. Solaris networking. Dumb NT pukes. Working late. Housing associations. Having NO FUCKING MONEY. Uptight parents. Asshole "friends" who act like your very existence annoys them and then tell you it's really your fault anyway.
Then again...
There's a girl waiting on me to pick up groceries and come home to her so she can cook me dinner. I got her moved from Kansas this weekend with no major mishaps and only a few tears shed on her part. The road between Emporia and Denver was smooth; the weather was excellent and the scenery beautiful. I go home this weekend to see my sister and my brother and my cute little niece, and my sister and I will drink and sing like fools at karaoke night, and my mom will mother me by stuffing me with food, and my dad and I will watch baseball and watch my brother scream at the TV. I'll eat catfish and turnip greens, sweet potatoes and biscuits with gravy. And when I get back, my girl will greet me at the airport with a smile and a kiss, and I'll remember why I stay around this town in the first place.
